Our Program
Our Program
Our program follows a flexible routine that is based on the needs of the children on any given day, creating a flow from indoor to outdoor play. Children are given extended periods of time to explore, investigate and learn through social interactions with their peers and educators. Our educators view children as capable and competent individuals and use a variety of teaching methods to instill resilience, confidence, persistence, independence and negotiation skills. Every aspect of the program is carefully reflected upon so that school readiness skills are developed from the very start of your child’s journey at Kinburra.
Educator Roles
Our team of passionate and professional educators is committed to creating an environment and learning space that fosters various aspects of learning to support the whole child; physical, emotional, social, cognitive and wellbeing.
Each educator has an officer role and is responsible for encouraging and embedding a certain aspect of learning into the program; Sustainability, Outdoor Environment, Munch and Move, Work Health and Safety, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives, Community and Educational Leader.
Partnerships in Learning
At Kinburra, children are at the center of everything we do. This means that communication with children and families is vital to the planning and learning process. Educators encourage and support children to voice their ideas and be active participants in their learning. Children are encouraged to take part in decision-making in regard to matters that affect them. We believe in forming strong trusting relationships with families and ask for suggestions to support extending on each child’s individual interests and learning.
Project-Based Learning
There are two rooms at Kinburra Preschool: the Possum Room and the Koala Room, both catering to children aged 3 – 5 years. The children co-construct learning, with the older children becoming leaders assisting their younger peers. The program is based on the children’s interests – a room project is then undertaken to delve deeper into the interest and extend on the children’s literacy, numeracy, STEM and research-based skills. Both intentional educator-led and spontaneous group times occur throughout the day.
Other Learning Programs We Offer

Can families be involved in the program?
Family communication and involvement is an integral part of our program. We often ask families to contribute to our program by sharing their expertise with the children. Families can also join Eco Garden working bees, be a member of the association, join us on an excursion or attend our family events throughout the year.
Is there community involvement?
We connect with the community by going on regular excursions to Kincumber Shopping Village, the Neighborhood Centre, Kincumber Library and the Eco Garden. We often hold incursions with community members visiting our preschool to share their knowledge with the children.
How does Kinburra’s program prepare my child for school?
Educators plan various opportunities for children to develop and practice foundational skills which will be needed as they start formal learning. Educators encourage skills such as curiosity, agency, independence, resilience, persistence and an understanding of others. This provides the child with a sense of confidence to seek new challenges, cope with the unexpected and thrive in their school environment. We believe in a strong connection between the preschool and school during the school transition process.
